Magic Pages
I dusted the book-shelf - moving this to there,
and sometimes back again, adjusting sizes.
But somehow, when it comes to books, just moving them
is not enough. Books are there to quietly detain,
as hands are there to handle, turning magic pages.
Multi-coloured bindings hold secrets, stories, poems,
anecdotes of lives, not ours, but those from different times.
I’m beside the Ganges; I can smell spiced air.
Such a fantasy supersedes the duster,
radiates an ordinary day with gentle literacy,
the piracy of pages turned by a happy prisoner.
