Title: Midsummer Madness

I feel a madness in the air tonight.
The moon hangs lazy in the sky,
drifting over-hanging branches.
Copper beech bleached white,
eerie in silence.

Dawn will bring the Solstice -
that rapid flash of green, of gold -
that forestalls the sounds of awakening life.
But now - a furtive flutter, leaf fall,
bare breath hardly heard - more felt.

In the ecliptic silence
of midnight - is it the quiet
that I fear? Simply because
you - who made me feel so safe,
are now no longer here.
