Title: Full Steam Ahead

Crewe`s fine heritage began in eighteen forty three
When that first locomotive made railway history.
The greatest engines ever built then followed, one by one,
Industry in Cheshire had finally begun.

The ethics of those engineers had now become renowned,
The quality and quantity on which their work was found
encouraged more prosperity and municipal pride.
this small & leafy Cheshire town was noted far and wide...

Later on the age of steam was fading hour by hour,
replaced by other, less respected, means of motive power:
Tenders for these locos were handed out elsewhere
Leaving local crafts and tradesmen jobless, in despair.

And now

Goodbye Grand Junction

(Thanks for Our Heritage)

Erecting , Boiler &Machine
and all the other shops between.
The Foundries, Smithy, Sig & Tel,
the Millwrights and the Forge as well,
Maintenance and Joinery,
the Canteen Staff who made the tea.
The Power House & all the `sparks`,
the Management and all the Clerks.
Draftsmen. Typists, Cleaners, Foremen,
Messengers and watchful Doormen
Skills and crafts, alas, long gone
But pride in heritage lives on
